How it works

  1. Tell us what you run

One truck or a fleet, for-hire or private, interstate or cross-border. Five questions.

  2. We file and enroll

Consortium certificate the same day. Registrations filed in Motus the day your identity check clears.

  3. We keep the calendar

Random selections, Clearinghouse queries, UCR every December, MCS-150 when due, IFTA every quarter.

Why carriers switch to Profirm

No scare letters. No surprise tests. No call center.

  • The FMCSA minimum, not a test more. Some consortiums run alcohol tests at 70 to 75 percent because they are paid per test. We run 10 percent, the legal rate.
  • Government fee and our fee, side by side. A USDOT number costs 0 USD from FMCSA. We say so, then charge for the work.
  • A person answers. English, Spanish or French, Monday to Friday, same business day.
  • 38 years of audits. We started in 1988 keeping Quebec carriers compliant in the US. We know what auditors ask for.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a drug and alcohol consortium as an owner-operator?

Yes. If you drive a CDL vehicle under your own USDOT number, 49 CFR Part 382 requires you to be in a random testing pool run by a consortium / third-party administrator (C/TPA). You cannot administer your own random program. Enrollment takes about five minutes and you get your certificate the same day.

How much does DOT compliance cost for one truck?

With Profirm: consortium enrollment $99 a year, $79 per random test when your name comes up, UCR filing $49 plus the government fee, and IFTA returns $75 a quarter. The Owner-Operator Plan bundles the calendar items for $449 a year. Government fees are always shown separately.

Is Profirm part of FMCSA or USDOT?

No. Profirm is a private compliance firm founded in 1988. FMCSA never charges for forms, never calls you to sell training, and does not endorse vendors. We say so on every page because carriers are targeted by lookalike services every week.

What changed with the new FMCSA registration system?

Since May 14, 2026 all USDOT and authority filings go through Motus, FMCSA's new registration system. The company official must verify identity through Login.gov, and MC numbers are no longer issued. Every tutorial written before May 2026 is out of date. Our Motus filing service walks you through the identity step and files the rest.

Can you handle both Canada and the United States?

That is where we started. Profirm has kept Quebec and Ontario carriers compliant in the US since 1988, and now serves US carriers on both sides of the border: USDOT and authority, Clearinghouse, IFTA with provincial jurisdictions, New York HUT, and the Canadian side (carrier code, NSC, provincial permits). See cross-border compliance.
